The Obinze community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, was on friday thrown into mourning as a heavy downpour led to the death of three persons.
Two churches and a beer depot were also said to have been destroyed while 35 electric poles were reportedly uprooted by the accompanying heavy wind.
According to reports, the incident which happened along the Obinze-Umuokanne road left no fewer than 12 persons wounded.
A source in the Obinze community said: “The raging wind dismantled no less than 35 electric poles along the Umuokanne-Obinze road. It also claimed three lives and destroyed two church buildings and a brewery depot.
“Another building that collapsed is a beer depot belonging to a businessman in the area. We have not seen this kind of havoc before. This is very unfortunate and the losses are huge.”
Reports also claimed that one of the churches destroyed by the rainstorm was ‘Beyond Principalities and Powers Ministry’.
