Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, has vowed that the fire incident that occurred at the Onitsha Main Market on Tuesday would be investigated with a view to preventing future occurrences.
Soludo, who stated this while commiserating with the traders, expressed sadness over the early morning fire that razed a two-story building within the market and also destroyed some shops leading to the loss of multi-million naira worth of goods.
The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Christian Aburime, quoted the governor as given the assurance in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement read in part: “Soludo has commiserated with traders at the Onitsha Main Market over the fire incident that razed down their shops.
“The governor expressed sadness over the early morning fire on Tuesday that razed a two-storey building within the main market which consumed some shops leading to loss of goods.
“The governor again reiterated the need for all to be extra vigilant in preventing outbreaks of fire incidences in the markets, offices and even our homes
“He commended the efforts of the Fire-fighters and other security agencies who battled to contain the inferno
“Soludo further assured that government will investigate the incident with a view to preventing future occurrence.”
