A senior lawyer, Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), has concluded plans to host a national conference tagged ‘Summit of Hope’, aimed at finding solutions to the myriad of challenges facing the country.
Babalola, who is the founder of Afe Babalola University (ABUAD), Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, disclosed this on Tuesday at the Annual Public Lecture organised by the Ado Ekiti branch of the Nigerian Bar Association.
To ensure the success of the summit, Babalola donated the sum of N50m towards the confab, adding that the conference was his “way to help the country to find solutions to the myriads of problems confronting Nigeria.”
Speaking further, Babalola said the proposed national conference, which is scheduled to hold at ABUAD hall and ABUAD Inn at the institution, would have eminent Nigerians, including former presidents and prominent monarchs who would help proffer solutions to the country’s problems.
“The situation in Nigeria today is gruesome and all hands must be on the deck to save it from total collapse.
“I am proposing ABUAD as venue of the summit because it is safe, has a Federal Ministry of Aviation-certified helipad, well equipped 400-bed multi-system hospital, among others,” he said while making the donation.
Dignitaries expected to be part of the confab include personalities such as the Sultan of Sokoto; Alhaji Saad Abubakar; Alaafin of Oyo; Oba Lamidi Adeyemi; Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
Others include the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe; Obi Of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe; Bishop David Oyedepo; Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah; Pastor Enoch Adeboye; Gen. Theophilus Danjuma; Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Prof. Wole Soyinka; and Chief Ayo Adebanjo.
It would be recalled that the Presidency, in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, had alerted Nigerians that some ‘disruptive elements’ are planning to call for a conference where a vote of no confidence will be passed on President Muhammadu Buhari.
