FG Orders VCs To Reopen Universities, Resume Lectures

Striking lecturers under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have been ordered to call off their over seven-month nationwide strike action.

The order was handed down on Wednesday by the National Industrial Court (NIC) in a judgment delivered in the case brought before it by the Federal Government.

ASUU embarked on strike since February 14, 2022 to press home its demands for improved funding for universities, a review of salaries for lecturers, among other issues.

The government, through its counsel, James Igwe, had prayed the court for an interlocutory injunction restraining ASUU from taking further steps as regards the strike, pending the determination of the substantive suit.
