In Anambra, Hoodlums Attack, Kill Six Policemen, Naval Personnel

Three policemen and three naval personnel on Thursday met their untimely death after hoodlums reportedly numbering about twenty attacked and killed them in different parts of Anambra State.

In the incident, three policemen were shot dead at Neni in Anaocha Local Government Area of the state, with their vehicle was set ablaze, while the naval officers were attacked and killed in another attack at Awkuzu, in the Oyi Local Government Area of the state, with their firearms carted away by the hoodlums.

The spokesman of the state police command, DSP Tochukwu ikenganyia, while confirming the development, insisted that only one police officer was killed.

He said: “The hoodlums, numbering over 20 in three Sienna vehicles and motorcycles, engaged the policemen in a gun duel, which lasted for over 30 minutes before reinforcements from the state headquarters forced the hoodlums to escape.

“As a result, two police operatives sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to a hospital for medical attention, where one was confirmed dead.”
