Catholic Priest Kidnapped In Imo Regains Freedom

Gunmen, again struck in Imo State on Sunday morning, abduting a Catholic priest, Rev. Professor Izu Onyeocha, said to be a senior lecturer at the Department of Humanities of the Imo State University.

According to reports, the cleric was abducted around 7:00 am on Sunday at Ihube Community in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State, along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.

The native of Avuru Community in Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state was said to have been travelling back to Owerri from Enugu when the incident happened, as the gunmen forced him to stop by shooting sporadically.

An eyewitness said that the villagers heard sporadic gunshots and later confirmed the identity of the victim with his cassock and identity card.
