Gunmen Hit University In Benue, Abduct Unspecified Number Of Students

Gunmen have reportedly attacked the Federal University of Agriculture, Markudi, the Benue State capital, abducting an unspecified number of students.

The institution confirmed the abduction of the students in a statement by its Director of Information, Protocol and Public Relations Unit (IPPR), Mrs Rosemary Waku, on Monday.

“The University has reported the incident to the police and all relevant security agencies.

“The University has not heard anything from the students or their captors since the unfortunate incidence took place”, Waku said in the statement.

The Benue State Police Command has also confirmed the abduction in a statement by its its spokesperson, Anene Sewuese.

“The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command has ordered a full-scale investigation into the case,” Sewuese said.

The abduction of the students is coming less than a week after some students of the Greenfield University, a private institution in Kaduna State were abducted from their campus off the Abuja-Kaduna Highway. Three of the students were later found dead on Friday at a location close to the school.
