An attempted attack on the Orlu Police Divisional Headquarters in Imo State has led to the death of eight unknown gunmen after security operatives resisted the attack on Thursday night.
Also about seven vehicles used by the gunmen for the operation were reportedly recovered by the security operatives in the gun battle that lasted several hours.
According to reports, the military sent reinforcement from the 34 artillery brigade, Obinze, in Owerri, creating an atmosphere of panic, as people scampered for safety, with the roads in Orlu town and its environs deserted.
A resident of the area revealed that an Amoured Personnel Carrier was set ablaze at Umuna junction in Orlu town.
A senior police officer also disclosed that the corpses of the hoodlums and their vehicles had been brought to the state police command headquarters in Owerri. He added that the police divisional headquarters was not razed neither did any security officer killed in the attack.
