The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire has said there is no point for Nigerians to pay to get vaccinated, adding that government will vaccinate everyone free of charge.
The minister stated this at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Monday through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health Abdulaziz Mashi Abdullahi, saying there has reports of racketeering of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines in some of the designated vaccination centres across the country.
Ehanire, who revealed that the ministry has received several reports of health workers selling the vaccines to middlemen who later peddle them to unsuspecting Nigerians, said: “We’ve received reports of racketeering in some of the designated vaccination centres. This is not necessary.
“Vaccination has been scheduled in phases such that frontline health workers and those at higher risk of the infection are vaccinated first after registration at the portal.
“Everyone will be vaccinated free and everyone will eventually be vaccinated. There’s no need to pay to be vaccinated.”
