Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has charged security agents in the state not to allow ‘idiots’ who do not have authority to carry arms kill them.
Uzodinma, who disclosed that his administration would introduce an insurance policy for all the security operatives serving in the state, stated this when he paid a condolence visit on Tuesday to the state police headquarters in Owerri, to sympathise with its leadership over the killing of policemen and burning of police formations in the state in the past few months by unknown gunmen.
He said: “Let me say it again, you are the only one licenced to carry guns in our country. Don’t allow yourself to be killed by idiots who do not have the authority of the law to carry guns. Stop allowing yourselves to be murdered in cold blood by them. Defend yourselves, the lives and property of peace-loving people of the state.”
The governor also disclosed that his administration was putting a programme together where all the family members of those who died during the unrest in the state would be compensated.
He also assured that the state government would improve the security situation of the state, pledging to increase the logistics the police required to police the state.
Governor Uzodinma also commended the state Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, for improving the security situation of the state in the past six weeks, and handed over six operational vehicles to the command.
