The Ondo State Election Petition Tribunal has thrown out a petition filed before it by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party {PDP} in the October 2020 governorship election in the state, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede against the re-election of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Jegede had approached the tribunal seeking the nullification of Akeredolu’s declaration as the winner of the election.
It will be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission {INEC} had declared the governor, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress {APC}, as the winner of the election.
The three-man panel of justices delivered their verdict via Zoom on Tuesday due to the strike action embarked upon by the judiciary workers that made the regular venue of the tribunal’s sitting to be put under lock and key.
The tribunal dismissed all the grounds of the PDP candidate’s petition for lack of merit.
