Still basking in the euphoria of their winnings at the 2021 edition of Grammy Awards, wave making Nigerian ‘songstars’, Burna Boy and Wizkid have been named in the prestigious Forbes 100 Icons From Africa.
Also named in the list are other Nigerian celebrities, Davido, Omotola Ekeinde, Genevieve Nnaji, Funke Akindele-Bello, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Mr Eazi.
The recently elected Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was also listed.
Speaking on the list, Forbes said the list was curated from Hollywood exports and Grammy artists to award-winning ideas that can save the world, adding that the list is a way of “celebrating those whose ideas, inventions, and influential role models have aided Africa’s growth over the last decade.”
Forbes said on its official Twitter handle, @Forbesafrica: “This is a way of celebrating those also with the award-winning ideas that had defined the African continent and influential role models that have spelt Africa’s growth over the last decade.”
On Burna Boy, the internationally influential magazine described him as one of the biggest and most successful African artists on this continent, while Genevieve was described as the trailblazer of Nollywood.
It would be recalled that Burna Boy recently won a Grammy in the Best Global Music Album category while Wizkid won with Beyonce.
