The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the death of 11 persons in an auto crash involving an articulated vehicle conveying 23 motorcycles to Lagos in Wuya village of the Lemu Local Government Area of the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Adamu Usman told reporters in Minna at the weekend that other persons sustained various degrees of injuries when the accident occurred on Friday.
According to Usman, the accident occurred in the afternoon when the tyre of an articulated vehicle marked KGK 66 EZP burst, adding that the vehicle that carried 23 motorcycles had left Katsina State for Lagos. He added that the police were yet to ascertain the exact number of passengers in the vehicle.
He said: “Eleven persons died on the spot, while others who sustained various degree of injuries were evacuated to Federal Medical Centre, Bida, for treatment.
“We have begun an investigation and we warn drivers to desist from carrying people with articulated vehicles.”
